Does anyone use, McAfee Site Advisor and what do you think of it?

Posted by admin on August 27th, 2009 and filed under site advisor | 3 Comments »

Is it a safe program to download, that will not cause any problems on my pc? If not, are there other programs similar to it, that are better or safer.

i use it on my older computer which has windows 98 on it. It works well and doesn’t seem to slow it down, although I’ve heard it uses quite a bit of memory..that is not my experience. It’s just reassuring to see that a website is considered safe by the green tag Advisor displays. If you try it out, you can always uninstall it if it doesn’t help you out.

Here’s a link to the McAfee removal tool. Should work but, as has been said, it will remove all your McAfee programs. Great idea!

why does my site advisor pop up every time I tab or change screens?

Posted by admin on August 23rd, 2009 and filed under site advisor | 1 Comment »

My site advisor use to come on and shut down a page when it didn’t connect properly or something. Now it pops up and says its encountered a problem and must close but it doesn’t and nothing is visibly wrong. It pops up anytime I click on a tab or change pages or go to a new site. No matter where or what, it pops up but never closes the page. It offers the option of sending a report and then I close it. It gets old when your having to close this every single time I do something or go somewhere on my computer. i have mcafee security, comcast , and internet explorer. any ideas or any way to disable the advisor?

I also have the same problem! It is very annoying and I do not know how to correct this problem, how do I get in contact with microsoft?

What is the worst internet site to go on for viruses, spyware for red x’s on Mcafee’s site Advisor?

Porn sites, especially if you download some stuff.

I’m trying to block a specific website on XP using content advisor, but the site keeps loading ?

Posted by admin on August 21st, 2009 and filed under site advisor | 3 Comments »

I am using content advisor to try to block a specific website. I am typing in an administrator password, enabling the settings and adding the website to the never allowed section. It is still allowing the site to load. What should I do?

1. Click Start->All Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt
2.. Click Command Prompt This will open a DOS command window.
3. Type: notepad C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc/hosts
4. Locate the line 127.0.0.1 local host
5. To block the website google.com for example, just add this text under 127.0.0.1 local host:

127.0.0.1 google.com
127.0.0.1 www.google.com

You can add as many sites as long as you prefix it with "127.0.0.1".

6. Save the file
Google will now be blocked in all web browser. This is an advanced but easy method on how to blow a website.

Web of Trust is a browser add-on (for IE and Mozilla Firefox) It rates sites and tells you if their safe to go to. A site can be rated green (good) yellow (use caution) and red (bad site). All the reviews are from people along with ratings. They even have a community I advise it a lot and it’s free. go to www.mywot.com to download it.
