I have a new comp and am having so much trouble with viruses. I have avast anti virus (free). Pc spyware doctor (free) I have to manually start the scan for this. But is this ok and what is malware I also have mcafree site adviser. Is this all to much. My system is so slow but is that from the viruses i keep getting or the programs im running.
you don’t need all these much programs i will tell you a few and simple things to do to keep you away from viruses and spywares and won’t slow down your pc
First to eliminate or avoid spyware problem use the mozilla firefox browser instead of internet explorer, the firefox is less attractive to spywares….use also the ad-block plus browser extension to block all ads and phishing that you don’t like, firefox not only better in security but also faster and reliable and will increase ur browsing speed alittle bit.
Second, use NOD32 antivirus or F-Secure they are in the third and forth places of top ten anti-viruses,first one can detect 95,5% of viruses and second one can detect about 96.6 of viruses as i remember from many test has been done befor, avoid free programs like avg and avast they are good but only detect 88% of viruses.
3-use a free program to scan for spywares regulary such as ad-aware or spybot search and destroy they are the best of the best, not the best free but the best of all,the ad-aware can detect 99.5% of spywares.
Use spybot or ad-aware just for scanning and assuring no spys in ur system and don’t but them in real time scan,u don’t need this function from any spyware program such as spyware doctor or any other program…….the f-secure or nod32 will do the job perfectly and prevent also any real spaywares from attacking ur pc
4-don’t use a firewwall program if you are behind a router that have a firewall or NAT function, only microsoft windows firewall is enough in this case.
5-if u are using an email client like outlook and suffering from spams too, switch to Thunderbird email client from mozilla.
6-for malware u have a malware scan engine built in the windows operation system and regulary updated every month with the automatic window update function,so u don’t need a standalone malware detection program
I have resolved many security issues befor,so trust my words
good luck
After all this time it is still grey with a ? mark. I sell sports sunglasses with a low margin and I do know that this is having an affect on my sales as people will not go into my site.
I can see no where on the site advisor site where you can query this.
it is gray on your site because mcafee hasn’t checked it yet or no one has written a review of it yet
to fix it i think u have to leave a good review or i think that mcafee will eventually scan it
you can do this by going to your site, clicking on the mcafee button on your toolbar and it’ll show all the info
i got a new laptop and its got mcafee on it and im wondering it that anti virus protection?
or do i have to go out and buy that seperately?
thankyouu
Yes it is. But it probably only a trial and you will need to pay for it or get something else when the trial is up. You should also make sure it is running and updating.
am i safe or do i need any more thanks guys
Good setup some people would say to get more. But if you used MyWot alongside with siteadvisor in firefox that would be a great combo.
Even though the link on the Google Adwords ad had the green check, I couldn’t get my click on the link to resolve on the advertiser’s website. All the other ads on that same SERP worked fine and the natural listings were no problem. Just one ad with a live (hot) link would not work. Anyone experienced anything like this with McAfee Site Advisor or with other Google Adwords Ads?

I found a very useful Web site called SiteAdvisor that helps protect you from spyware, adware, spam, and identity theft. I thought you might also want to try SiteAdvisor so you can stay safer online.
Whenever you visit a Web site or are asked to provide your e-mail address online, SiteAdvisor displays a red or green rating based on the results of its tests of that site. SiteAdvisor will also warn you about "phishing" sites and other kinds of online scams. To try it, just go to http://www.siteadvisor.com/.
Thnx a lot man!!
Ive been trying to find a site from which to download movies for free. I have Mcafee site advisor and when i click on most sites Mcafee site advisor warns against it. Should i stay away from these sites or is Mcafee site advisor just being precautionary?
stay away from them. the reason site advisor says stay away is that you can’t tell if the file you are wanting to d/l is actually the file you found in search. and in some cases people add stuff like viri to the movie files they are sharing. mostly trojans that open a backdoor so they can brouser your personal data. also any movie you d/l from the web is copywritten and therefore it’s illegal to d/l it. you want movies go to blockbuster or one of the other sales places and buy your movies like the rest of us honest people.
Well I asked what kind of add ons people use and two people recommended mcafee site adviser and I couldn’t find it when I searched add ons. Is it spelled wrong or called something else, or no longer available or something?
You just go to this site http://www.siteadvisor.com/ using your firefox browser and then in the bottom right hand corner there should be a big orange button that says "Download SiteAdvisor now for firefox"
Okay, I know how. You click the arrow and check that the site is abled. Or something like that I can’t exatcly remember the exact words but It’s something like that. I’ve heard that from many people, but wheres’s the arrow/ thats what I dont understand, people keep saying "click to arrow on site advisor" or similar things to that. I can’t seem to find the arrow. Sorry this is kind of a dumb question… but I’m not to good with this program. So if you could help me it would be great:)
Thanks

I recently updated the mcafee site advisor program that I’ve used for years, Now every time I open a browser window whether it’s firefox, internet explorer, or opera, i get annoying pop ups asking if I want to make yahoo my default search browser, block red sites, and use mcafee safe search box feature. Even though I click DECLINE and remove the pre-checked boxes, it does it anyway. Then a couple more pop ups come up about the End User License Agreement (EULA). This is really pissing me off.
I have tried going into control panel to remove the program but it isn’t even listed there. I tried to uninstall the plug in but after I click uninstall it turns grey/fades out but doesn’t do anything else. It’s still there. I also tried system restore but the pop ups still keep coming up.
Is this program unsafe/malware now? Any ideas on how to kill it once and for all? Lastly, yes I have pop-ups disabled on all browsers but mcafee’s still come up anyway!!!
I am having the same problem. I checked site advisor settings and they are NOT checked. I also tried to disable site advisor on the website but the next web page still has it active.
I AGREE THIS IS TOTALLY ANNOYING!!!
